I am sorry to tell you today

As he rustles his head full of hay

The number of deaths recorded

He doesn’t even make it sound morbid

From covid in the UK

(And that’s just to today)

Has surpassed one hundred thousand and it’s hard to compute

Said the man in the expensive designer suit

The sorrow contained in that grim statistic

(If only he’d seen the signs like some kind of mystic)

The years of life lost

The economy’s deep cost

The family gathering not attended

If only his Christmas Day plan had been amended

And for so many relatives

For him, just mortuary stiffs

The missed chance to even say goodbye

His faux grief, compounded piece by piece, lie by lie.

Boris Johnson’s speech was give on the 26th January 2021.
